Looking at Life differently

Role of Perception How we look at life is governed by our conditioning --- childhood, family, schools, friends, society – but we mistake it for Reality !

Rorschach inkblot tests

We learn…. We don’t ‘see’ the things as they are, but always through our conditionings ! Mindfulness of this fact reduces Conflict !

Limitations of the instruments of “seeing” ! Looking more penetratingly can reveal a different picture!

How would a Man appear to one with “X- ray” vision ?

How would a Man appear to one with ability to “see” atoms inside the body?

Interconnectedness - separate identity an illusion ! How would a Man appear to one with ability to “see” atoms inside & outside the body? Interconnectedness - separate identity an illusion !

How do mental feelings and emotions arise ? Why do we get angry, unhappy, anxious ……. Suffer ? Normal view: Because of others : people, circumstances, situations

Investigating mental feelings and emotions…… deeply Suffering Separation from what we like Association with what we dislike Not getting what we desire This is inevitable !

Investigating mental feelings and emotions……more deeply Suffering : Craving for pleasant Aversion to unpleasant तृष्णा Differences in likes and dislikes These underlying tendencies exist in us , external events only act as triggers

Investigating mental feelings and emotions……more deeply Can we eradicate these deep rooted tendencies (संस्कार) ? These underlying tendencies exist in us , external events only act as triggers

Why do we suffer ? Suffering is caused by underlying tendencies of craving for pleasant and aversion to unpleasant feelings External stimulii are just triggers which activate these tendencies

Investigating mental feelings and emotions……more deeply Cognition Evaluation Based on perception Feelings/ Sensations Instinctive reaction : P P Principle Bare observation experience of impermanence, development of insight {purification of the mind} संस्कार क्षीण mind more impure संस्कार और गहरा

Investigating mental feelings and emotions……more deeply Practice of non reactive observation of whatever happens in the body–mind complex यथा भूत ज्ञान दर्शन Cultivation of Mindfulness … …. to develop the ability to feel the bodily sensations, mental reactions, mental states, emotions etc. with which we identify without our being aware => Conscious Living 25/08/2014 PLD/DU/Psychology

Investigating mental feelings and emotions……even more deeply How did these tendencies arise in us ? P P Principle : Survival instinct What keeps this alive ? Identification with B- M Complex Need to change this erroneous perception

What is a Car ?

Changing Perception : Where is the Car ? 25/08/2014 PLD/DU/Psychology

What is a Man ? 25/08/2014 PLD/DU/Psychology

Changing Perception: Where is the Man ? 25/08/2014 PLD/DU/Psychology

Interconnectedness - separate identity an illusion ! How would a Man appear to one with ability to “see” atoms inside & outside the body? Interconnectedness - separate identity an illusion !

Why do we suffer ? Suffering is caused by identifying with Body and Mind ….. Considering these as “me, mine, my self” ….. forgetting the Truth of interconnectedness. Notion of separateness leads to concepts of “me and mine” and “ thee and thine” External stimuli are just triggers which activate these notions and cause suffering What we did in mindful eating honouring the food, consider the family tree…. Whole world is my relative … genetically !!

The Insight into the origin of suffering

The Quintessence of Mindfulness Mindfulness of body & mind Practice of Non-identification with body Practice of Non-identification with mind Ego & C A D Reduced Dawn of Wisdom

Looking at Life differently There are no problems in Life……...only situations Respond unwisely : suffer Respond wisely : grow Por todo esto, propongo que de hoy en adelante; Crisis = Problem + Opportunity

Thank You !
