The Chatillon Experience

I, though unworthy, was Pastor of a small parish I, though unworthy, was Pastor of a small parish. As I was about to give the sermon, someone came to tell me there was an indigent man who was sick and very badly lodged in a poor barn. ... ...moved by compassion, I made a strong plea, speaking with such feeling that all the ladies were touched by it. SV, IX, 22/1/1645

I met the ladies returning in droves, and God gave me this thought: Couldn’t these good ladies be brought together and encouraged to give themselves to God to serve the sick poor? They immediately resolved to see to it. SV IX, 22/1/1645.

The Light that shone in Chatillon continues to be alive in the AIC, and in the Daughters of Charity. Vincent de Paul saw a need and became the "Good Samaritan" with his heart empty of himself. He became the good NEIGHBOR of those disinherited on the earth.

Lord Jesus, you, who wanted to become poor, make us have eyes and heart for the poor, that we recognize You in them: in their thirst, in their hunger, in their solitude. .. That following your steps we may serve others.

Raise in us the simplicity, humility and charity that burned in St Raise in us the simplicity, humility and charity that burned in St. Vincent de Paul.

May we learn from Vincent de Paul, to see your image in each needy person who requests our help. Love makes people great, since we have been born to love.

Grant us, Lord, a big heart, in the manner of St Vincent, to understand all miseries. Grant us, Lord, to have attentive eyes to discover the needs of the poor, in the style of St Vincent.

Grant us Lord, quick feet to run and to be committed to resolving the needs of others. Grant us, Lord, strength, so that, faithful to St Vincent’s virtues, we can serve you in persons who are poor.

Grant us, Lord, the courage and capacity of commitment to participate in charitable actions.

Assist us to be helpful, to be concerned about others, to live thinking of them.

St. Vincent, teach us to truly love as you did. Amen.
