Fig. 1 (a) Ampicillin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (AREfm) colonization rates per neutropenic episode (NEs) before prophylaxis administration (Basal), during levofloxacin extended prophylaxis (LEP) and after LEP discontinuation; (b) acquisition and persistence rates of AREfm during first NEs in the different study sub-periods, *p <0.025. Fig. 2 Evolution of relative abundance of Enterococcus faecium, Enterococcus spp. and total bacteria in faecal samples of ampicillin-resistant E. faecium (AREfm)-colonized and non-colonized patients at Levofloxacin extended prophylaxis (LEP) and post prophylaxis (Pos-LEP) studied by quantitiative PCR. Abbreviations: P, patient; Mdn, median value; AML, acute myelogenous leukaemia; ALL, acute lymphoblastic leukaemia; Myelof, myelofibrosis. Numbers reflect the log increase or decrease with respect to the basal sample. In both AREfm-colonized and non-colonized patients, total bacteria tend to diminish in LEP and Pos-LEP samples. In AREfm-colonized patients, enrichment in enterococci population, mainly due to E. faecium is observed whereas on the contrary decreases on enterococcal load are frequently found among non-colonized patients. Fig. S1 Colonization dynamics of ampicillin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (AREfm). Hospital admission duration is depicted with a continuous line and next to it, different neutropenic episodes are numbered. Discontinuous lines under admissions show the sampling periods and levofloxacin extended prophylaxis administration is represented with red arrows. AREfm isolates are depicted either with a coloured circle or unfilled coloured circle representing basal colonization. This figure shows predominance and persistence of ST117 clone during years 2009 and 2010 and the clonal replacement observed from 2011. Abbreviations: NC, non-colonized by AREfm.1 Clinical Microbiology and Infection 2016 22, 59.e1-59.e8DOI: (10.1016/j.cmi.2015.08.008) Copyright © 2015 European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Terms and Conditions
