United Way Worldwide: In 2016, 60,000 Global Corporate Leadership Partners (GCLs) raised over $1Billion Brian Gallagher, President & CEO UWW “. . . We have witnessed the evolution of philanthropy and we have continuously evolved as we transitioned from a fundraising federation to a social change organization . . .” *There are several criteria for membership in the Global Corporate Leadership program, including (but not exclusive to) running a workplace campaign at multiple sites, raising at least $2.5 million per year and contributing at least 50 percent of funds raised directly to United Way. www.uwcf.org

Disruption of fundraising models Technology Access to information Demographic shifts Increased competition Produced changes in individual donor and corporate partner expectations. Everybody is from Missouri! Show me! Services related to corporate culture. Example: General Mills Finding Balance: Don’t chase the money! Meet the expectation of the funder!! Produce measureable, sustainable results. Sources fund outcomes – not activities! The consequences of the “So what?” factor. 500 tutoring sessions? So what? How many are reading at grade level? Transitions are tough! Critical need: Produce personalized impact – become a social change agent – resist the resistance! Real life examples Old Outcome: “We will use every dollar you give us to do what you asked us to do.” Indicator: The money will be gone. Current “SMART” Outcome: “90% of low-income students (qualify for free/reduced meals)entering or repeating kindergarten, who attend (name of program) for at least 20 sessions will demonstrate a minimum of 4 months growth on expressive and/or receptive vocabulary assessments. Indicator: Pre/post scores on Peabody Picture Vocabulary and Expressive Vocabulary Tests (A&B Forms) Safe places for kids a few years ago – now SMART outcomes with credentialed staff and nationally normed tests www.uwcf.org

Understand Local Need Focus: Education, Income, Health Mission Statement Understand Local Need Drive Lasting Change to Improve Lives & Build Stronger Communities Focus: Education, Income, Health Community study – ID’d 40 local needs, 22 that UWCF could impact, 17 involved education. Priority: Education Improve Education – Improve Income & Health www.uwcf.org

Education: Helping Kids Succeed in School Birth – 6: Readiness to Achieve in School Improve language scores on school readiness assessments by 10% by 2020. Eliminate the gap in early literacy between children from low and middle/high income levels. Focus on language skills. www.uwcf.org

Target Issue: Improve School Readiness Intended result: Children enter school ready with the vocabulary they need to learn to read. Outcome: UWCF’s Let’s Grow Early Literacy Initiative (funded non-profits), in partnership with Publix Charities, Polk County Schools, and Nemours Children’s Hospital Foundation will improve school readiness language scores for children entering Polk County kindergarten by 10% by 2020. Indicator: Language component of the Polk County SR Assessment Pre/post PPVT and EVT www.uwcf.org

Education: Helping Kids Succeed in School Academic Achievement Students in grades K-12 are prepared to succeed. Standardized test scores Improved academic performance Promotions Better attendance/behavior www.uwcf.org

Target Issue: Academic Achievement Intended result: K - 12 students are prepared to succeed in school Outcome: K-12 students who meet participation requirements will: (1) score 10% higher on standardized tests in math/reading or science (2) Improve math/reading/science report card grades (3) Be promoted at a higher rate and/or attend school more frequently than a control group of similar children not participating in UWCF partner interventions. Indicators: 10 Year trend shows funded services improve: (1) Standardized test scores in reading/math/science (not as successful) (2) Comparison of fall and spring reading/math/science grades (3) Attendance records. (Behavior: suspensions/referrals – no change) www.uwcf.org

INCOME – Promoting Financial Stability Families who achieve greater financial stability reduce mobility. Improved Credit Scores Maintain Emergency Savings Improve Job Skills Increase Income Children from financially stable families stay in one class for the full school year! www.uwcf.org
