Montclair State University Digital Commons: An Institutional Repository Overview

Why an Institutional Repository at Montclair State? Serves faculty and institutional interests by collecting, organizing, preserving, and disseminating faculty scholarship and creative works in a digital, open-access environment. Brings together all of Montclair State's research and creative works under one umbrella, with an aim to preserve and provide access to that research. Consistent with the library’s archival role and responsibility in preserving publications and other artifacts documenting Montclair State’s history and the activities of its faculty, students, staff, and administrators. The University’s Carnegie classification as a research doctoral institution, as well as being classified by the New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education as a doctoral degree-granting institution all warrant showcasing the research being conducted at our University. On July 21, 2017 New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed legislation designating Montclair State University as a public research university.

Digital Commons The Library has subscribed to Digital Commons, powered by bepress, to serve as the hosted environment for our Repository. Our subscription includes: Digital Commons, a hosted institutional repository service used by 500+ universities, colleges, law schools, & research institutes. Expert Gallery Suite, which complements the Digital Commons publishing and showcase platform by promoting the people and expertise that make our University unique.

Author Profiles

Author Profiles using SelectedWorks SelectedWorks is an add-on feature of Digital Commons which enables authors to create profiles and feature their research. Any member of the Montclair State University faculty or staff may create a SelectedWorks profile. SelectedWorks is part of the Expert Gallery Suite product. Any materials that are important to your career can go on a SelectedWorks site, such as: Articles, book contributions, conference presentations, book reviews, links to editorials, or syllabi. Digital Commons highlights content, Expert Gallery Suite highlights people.

SelectedWorks Features Expert Galleries Showcase groups of faculty and researchers with unlimited custom galleries that seamlessly embed into any website, including campus pages. Author Profiles Promote our campus’s full breadth of scholarship with portfolios that highlight media engagements, streaming visual and audio, datasets, and mentorship opportunities. Impact Dashboard Use industry-leading impact tools to increase, track, and report on readership activity and productivity. Whether you want to know how many works an author has added in a given year or see page hits for their work over time, the Impact Dashboard makes it easy to track trending works, topics, and experts.

We Need You! Upload your research, newsletters, reports, conference proceedings, creative works, etc. Encourage your colleagues to use the Repository to showcase their work. Being a voice of the Repository not only helps promote your work but the work of your department and school or division. Ultimately by being active participants and ambassadors we showcase Montclair State and the creative works and scholarly output to our community and beyond.
