Presentation transcript:

Overdue books What can you do? Elaine Ball, worked at Orleans Park for over 10 years. I am delighted to introduce myself as the head teacher. I have been ast and deputy head here. I know the school very well and have been a part of its success. Taught mathematics mainly in London for about 25 years. I am passionate and enthusiastic about Orleans Park, it is a fantastic school to work in and in is a fantastic school to learn in. My role is to set the right environment that the teachers can teach in and the pupils can learn in. As Head I believe that I should is to maximise life chances for all our pupils. Giving every pupil what they need to grow and develop in to adults that can be successful in modern society. I believe a school should be friendly, caring and nurturing and that is what many staff, pupils and parents love about Orleans Park. Many visitors comment on this and I am proud of that fact. However, I do believe we need to having high expectations in all areas of school life, academic sporting, behaviour, manners, respect for others However we do continually strive to to raise our academic standards. I believe in a Can do culture. I believe that everyone can achieve irrelevant to their back ground. I want to improve the academic chances of all the young people in this school. It is my job to inspire the young people of this school And it is essential that as a headteacher I focus on our core purpose which is Teaching & Learning. I need to ensure teaching is effective and of consistently high calibre. The young people that come to this school only have one chance, every time they walk into classroom and the teaching is less than good, it is a wasted opportunity and that is not acceptable. We need to keep our library stocked with the books you all want to read but we have a problem with books not being returned. At any one time we have over 350 books ‘missing’. This is about £2000 worth of books!

So what can you do to help? You need to LOOK LOOK LOOK at home to see if you can find that ‘lost’ book. Has my younger brother or sister borrowed it? Is it under the bed? Is it at the bottom of my school bag? Is it on my book shelf?

If you find it... You have two options: Either pop it in the book returns trolley outside the library Or Hand it to Ms Stoffel in exchange for a sweet

You can also gain house points. There will be a box for each house and when you return a book it will go into your house box. The box/house with the most returned books will win ‘loads’ of house points..

What happens if I can’t find my book? Don’t worry. You can bring another book in as a replacement, maybe one you have read and enjoyed that’s just sitting on your shelf. That way we can keep our library well stocked for everyone!

You never need to miss the end of a book again! If you are not sure if you have an overdue book, your English teacher has a list. Don’t forget.. If your book is due back but you haven’t finished it, you can go back to the Library and have it renewed for another two weeks or even longer if you need it. You never need to miss the end of a book again!

So, come on. Let’s see if we can stop Elsa singing and get as many books back into the library as we can.
