Background Section 303(d) of 1972 Clean Water Act Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Texas Surface Water Quality Standards Fecal coliform bacteria Oyster water use Contact Recreation Use Enterococci Mission River Aransas River Copano Bay Impaired Water Segments

Project Overview Identify major bacterial sources in Copano watershed. Calculate total bacteria loadings, Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs), from bacterial sources. Determine amount of load reductions that is needed to meet water quality standards.

Objective of Term Project Complete first phase for Copano Bay TMDL project Compile Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data layers for watershed GIS data TCEQ and Texas Department of Health (TDH) bacteria monitoring data Land use land cover data Event mean concentrations (EMCs) Precipitation data Digital elevation models

TCEQ Bacteria Monitoring Data Fecal Coliform > 200 MPN/100mL Bacteria Monitoring Stations
