9/11/01 Appreciation Essay

Writing Task After reading the 2 articles and watching the 2 videos about September 11th, write a 5 paragraph essay explaining why Americans should have a greater appreciation for families, the country of the United States, and the emergency workers (firemen, policemen, etc.) who serve the people. Your essay MUST have the following… Each body paragraph should have two pieces of evidence, just like a regular RACECES paragraph. One compound and one complex sentence in each body paragraph. NO OPINION STATEMENTS!!! – “I think…”, “You should…”, “Today I am going to tell you…”

3 MAIN TOPICS:  Americans should appreciate their families because they should realize how quickly a horrible event could take the life of someone close to them.  People should value their country because of the unity and collaborative effort in which the situation was handled. All Americans should recognize how brave and heroic the emergency workers are who serve them daily. THESE ARE THE TOPICS FOR YOUR THREE BODY PARAGRAPHS For each body paragraph, you will find evidence from the two articles and “The Man in the Red Bandana” to support those statements (JUST LIKE A RACECES PARAGRAPH).

Intro paragraph (make sure to indent each paragraph!) According to the articles and videos presented in class on the events of September 11, 2001, all Americans were affected by this tragic day in history.  After learning about or experiencing these events, Americans should have a greater appreciation for their families, the United States, and emergency workers who serve the people.  Americans should appreciate their families because they should realize how quickly a horrible event could take the life of someone close to them.  People should value their country because of the unity and collaborative effort in which the situation was handled.  All Americans should recognize how brave and heroic the emergency workers are who serve them daily. Red = restate Blue = answer DO NOT WRITE B1, B2, AND B3 IN YOUR ESSAY. THAT IS JUST TO SHOW YOU THE TOPIC SENTENCES FOR BODY PARAGRAPHS!!

Body Paragraphs 1, 2, and 3 B1 – WRITE A RACECES PARAGRAPH USING THE TOPIC SENTENCE FROM YOUR INTRO PARAGRAPH ABOUT YOUR FIRST TOPIC. USE EBT’S TO CITE EVIDENCE. DO NOT REPEAT WHAT THE EVIDENCE IS SAYING IN THE EXPLANATION. B2 – WRITE A RACECES PARAGRAPH USING THE TOPIC SENTENCE FROM YOUR INTRO PARAGRAPH ABOUT YOUR FIRST TOPIC. USE EBT’S TO CITE EVIDENCE. DO NOT REPEAT WHAT THE EVIDENCE IS SAYING IN THE EXPLANATION. B3 – WRITE A RACECES PARAGRAPH USING THE TOPIC SENTENCE FROM YOUR INTRO PARAGRAPH ABOUT YOUR FIRST TOPIC. USE EBT’S TO CITE EVIDENCE. DO NOT REPEAT WHAT THE EVIDENCE IS SAYING IN THE EXPLANATION.

Conclusion – wrap up your whole paper      In conclusion this explains why after learning about or experiencing the events of September 11, 2001, Americans should have a greater appreciation for their families, their country, the United States, and emergency workers who serve the people. Americans should appreciate their families because they should realize how quickly a horrible event could take the life of someone close to them.  People should value their country because of the unity and collaborative effort in which the situation was addressed.  All Americans should recognize how brave and heroic the emergency workers are who serve them daily. It’s unfortunate that tragic days cause people to show more appreciation, but it is always a welcome reminder.
