Writing Challenge… Feel Good Five What are these?

Remember these… The five ways to wellbeing Connect – connecting with others Give – giving – looking outward as well as inward Be active – doing something active Take Notice – taking notice of the world around you Keep Learning – learning new things

The best way to really improve wellbeing is through understanding that ‘Wellbeing is important for you.’ There are things you can do to improve your wellbeing. The best chance of being able to stay happy throughout your life is to learn how to take responsibility for your own wellbeing.

Emotional health… Wellbeing (feeling good and functioning well) is important for everyone. Developing habits for wellbeing is best done when you are feeling ok rather than waiting until things are difficult. Taking the five actions regularly will help improve wellbeing. Finding ways to include the Five Ways to Wellbeing actions as part of everyday routines is the best way to improve your wellbeing.

For the writing challenge, we are going to focus on just one of the five ways to wellbeing. Take Notice - in Newent or the surrounding areas: Take time to be still, reflect, become aware of your surroundings. Reflecting on your experiences will help you appreciate what matters to you.

Listening Task…. Silence for 2 minutes Try to shut out thoughts and listen – it might help to close your eyes – so this rids you of one of your senses. What can you hear? Describe what you heard?

Ways to take notice: • Take a different, more beautiful route to or from school • Stop and really take in your surroundings • Notice your neighbours and people around you • Notice wild flowers and where they grow • Watch animals and birds outside • Do some people watching in the middle of town or in the park

Your writing challenge… Write a very detailed description of what you see, feel and smell. Take notice of the things that usually pass you by, be still, try to feel the moment. Let all thoughts leave your mind accept what you notice around you. Use all your senses.

Challenge… Your writing can be in the form of a poem or a descriptive piece of writing. As well as a focus on grammar, punctuation and spelling, we will be looking for really vivid descriptions, pay very close attention to details!

Descriptive writing shares the following characteristics Good descriptive writing includes many vivid sensory details that paint a picture and appeals to all of the reader's senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste when appropriate. Descriptive writing may also paint pictures of the feelings the person, place or thing invokes in the writer. Good descriptive writing often makes use of figurative language such as analogies, similes and metaphors to help paint the picture in the reader's mind.

Fall The chilly weather settles into your bones. Those once green leaves turn Red, yellow, orange, and brown. CRRNCH! go the leaves,, Beneath  your feet. The birds fly in a victory “V” formation, To where the sun rules the skies. The days of winter are lurking around Waiting to be free falling.

Spring The newborn flowers blossom  in all sizes and vivid colours. When you walk by, their sweet  and luscious aromas ensnare you.. The beautiful butterflies titter Around the light grassy areas. The trees are full of lush, dark green leaves. Spring is when you can really savour  the intense scent of nature.

Assessment vary sentences for clarity and effect. write accurately and punctuate correctly. select appropriate and effective words. use correct spelling.
