WHO FOUGHT IN THE WAR? ALLIES GREAT BRITAIN UNITED STATES Soviet Union (USSR) FRANCE AXIS GERMANY ITALY JAPAN

TREATY OF VERSAILLES Germany lost land to surrounding nations War reparations Germany owes $112 billion ($341 billion dollars today) Bankrupted and embarrassed Germany

WORLD WIDE ECONOMIC DEPRESSION Germany’s debt becomes even worse Decline in Germany’s industrial production over 30% Unemployment in Germany rises to 5.3 million people by 1932 (2.3 million in 1928)

TOTALITARIAN REGIME Totalitarianism Communist Dictatorship (USSR) Fascist Dictatorship (Germany, Italy) Military Dictatorship (Japan) Fascist: military government with strong support from business In a Totalitarian country, individual rights are not viewed as important as the needs of the nation
