Denotative Meaning Lugubrious means full of sadness or sorrow; very sad especially in an exaggerated or insincere way.
Connotative Meaning Lugubrious has a negative connotation, not only because it means that the person is upset, but also because it’s extreme exaggeration and sometimes “mock-mourning.” Therefore it makes the reader feel put-off by the person who is being lugubrious.
In a Sentence Laurie was acting very lugubrious today. I mean I know her dog died, but she’s acting like her mom has instead of her dog.
Color Choice I chose the color blue because if a person is blue then that means that they are sad, but I chose a very bright blue because then it becomes exaggerated.
