Dean’s Diversity Council Levin College Diversity Council:

Dean’s Diversity Council Reviewed 2017 priorities. Noted that “Diverse Student Recruitment“ is still a priority, and should be expanded to include Faculty and Staff. Identified Priorities for 2017-18 and 2018-19. Divided these into “Short-Term”; “Longer-Term” and “Ongoing”.

Short-Term: Participate, promote and collaborate on both Levin College and Campus-wide diversity celebration events. Examples:- MLK Day: Created a video loop of interview with Louis Stokes about Martin Luther King which ran on all Levin monitors. Black History Month: Levin College forum on “The Abolition of Slavery in the Age of the New Jim Crow: Reclaiming Rights for Ex-Prisoners”; forum on “Wealth Building in Northeast Ohio’s Communities of Color”.

Longer-Term: Develop Diversity Page on Levin Website. Initial pages will include Levin mission, vision and value statements and links to CSU’s Diversity plan. Slides and recordings from Levin Forum series and relevant public events. Potential future content –language tools; recruiting/hiring tools; syllabus tools; best practices and links to training programs such as Racial Equity and Inclusion (REI) training. Links to podcasts/video resources.

Ongoing – The Priority: Develop strategies and practices to both recruit and retain a diverse faculty, staff, and student body to the Levin College and to encourage student success. Identified, shared and utilized multiple opportunities to recruit diverse faculty and staff through resources such as Historic Black Colleges Connect, Black Women Professionals Association, etc.  Assisting a Graduate Student to develop a Minority Graduate Student Support Group.
