Highlands Climate Region Turn to page 62-63 and complete questions 1-3

Materials Ice cubes Data sheet Plastic Tray Clay Water (dyed blue) Infrared heat lamp mm ruler

Procedure – Floating Ice Clay was added to the tray and molded to simulate land. Water (dyed blue) and 10 ice cubes were added to the tray for a total of 10mm. The infrared light was turned on and shone on the tray. An initial measurement was made, marked in the clay and recorded. Measurements were taken every 15 minutes and recorded on the data sheet.

  10. In the space provided, draw a model to show how sea level rising occurs and its effects on the land surfaces (both natural and man made). Be sure to label the model. When water is heated by global warming it expands and takes up more space causing the sea level to rise As glaciers melt the water adds to the level of the sea. The heated water warms the bottoms of ice sheets and makes them melt The land is flooded in the spring. The heated Earth then causes more evaporation and the land becomes drier.
