The Stone Angel: Chapter 6

Plot 1 :Summary Hagar awakes in an old house - confused cold in pain and afraid. blames Doris.

Plot 2 hagar can’t afford to send John to college. (She lost her invested money through bad investment) hagar cries , thinking Bram has died., but John assures her of the contrary. John goes home to Manawaka. - Shipley place Two years later John writes that his father, Bram is dying and hagar goes home. Because of the drought, all places look like the Shipley’s on the prairies John looks dirty - appears to have been drinking.

Plot 2 - Continued Bram doesn’t know her - his condition has deteriorated - she feels ashamed, again, of her night thoughts of him over the years. John reminds hagar of Bram’s crudeness She meets Arlene, Lottie’s daughter, who is a teacher. hagar visits the cemetery, and has John right the toppled angel. - Irony John stays out all night drinking like Bram used to .

Plot 2 - Continued Marvin comes home for a few days - doesn’t get along with John because of John’s lifestyle. Wants John to return with him to the coast. He refuses - wants his independence.!!!! Bram dies - his daughters didn’t attend the funeral - but they come to collect some of his things. Bram buried in the Currie family plot. Irony John assures her that it is all right, only different side of the same coin. John cries after the funeral, hagar doesn’t.
