How does an interview differ from a conversation? Unlike conversation, an interview seeks information by working toward a predetermined goal

In making an interview appointment by phone, what do you say? Initial contact: Make an appointment Be sure to talk to the person who is in charge Identify yourself State the purpose of the contact Ask when it would be convenient to meet Agree on a definite time and place Before hanging up, leave a phone number where you can be contacted

What is the difference between an open end and a closed question? Be prepared for open ended questions Ones that allow you to respond with as much information as possible

How do you properly conduct an interview? Dress neatly and conservatively Arrive at least five minutes before the interview Have necessary materials such as paper and pencil Be friendly and courteous Avoid arguing, even though opinions differ Keep the interview on the right track, moving toward the goal Let the other person do some of the talking Avoid nervous or discourteous mannerisms Listen carefully and respond to the other person Keep the interview within the set time limits
