Success for All Prairie Elementary Schools School Improvement Goals and Actions for the 2017-18 School Year Laura

Continued S.E.L. Implementation PBIS Implementation: Year 4 and 5 Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports Preschool: Program-Wide Expectations ACEs - Adverse Childhood Experiences Balance of SEL-related resources (Olweus, Responsive Classroom, PBIS, etc.) Pilot School Based Therapist program with Tanager (View/Crest) Mike - Example of Tier 1 aside from PBIS includes “relax and return” in each classroom- Self regulation tool for students to take 3 to 5 minute emotional breaks to re-center and get back on track for learning.

Prairie View Connections... Focus 1: “We believe all children can learn at high levels Focus 2: “We believe educators matter” View teachers used August professional learning to implement Teach Like a Champion’s “100% Strategy in regards to classroom management and student engagement. This strategy focuses specifically on transitions, independent work and partner work within the classroom. Teachers generated a checklist of “look fors” for me as principal to provide targeted feedback during walk throughs. Teachers will use a protocol to drive data analysis within their PLC meetings. This protocol is used to analyze formative assessments and help teachers commit to a common instructional strategy to help 85% of students achieve “Meeting” status on the proficiency scale/ power standard. Views is finished… Oct. 4th, 2016

Prairie Ridge Connections with Focus 1 (We believe all children can learn at high levels) & Focus 2 (We believe educators matter most): PLC structures refined (year 2 of implementation) to include monthly SEL focus for each grade level team. Offers opportunity for all who work with students to review efficacy, and refine interventions (MTSS paralleling both academic and behavior needs). Use of Data Teams to have discussions around intervention and progress monitoring (utilizing Universal Screening data, scaffolding to use of Student Work Analysis protocol and focus on 4 PLC questions with more regular meetings). For the love of Reading! Emphasis on the comprehension component of our second school improvement goal. In light of all of our assessment measures, refocusing on to reading for enjoyment (staff and student initiatives piloted by Cadre). Math: beginning our learning (with Number Sense resources and guidance from the Iowa DE). In our beginning stages, but challenging us to rethink how we think, talk about math. Reading ideas-buddy reading, Read shirt day, staff sharing their favorite books

Prairie Hill Focus 1 We believe all children can learn at high levels Student Outcome Focus: 1b. By June of 2018, 85% of students in grades K-6 will meet benchmark goals on the spring FAST aReading assessment. (Composite score for K). Data related to outcome goals: Cause/effect data – (as of May 2017-FAST was not working at time of completing this) 71.29% of Hill students were considered proficient in aReading (K-84%) 75% of students were proficient in aReading in the winter compared to 71.25%-we need to focus on growth during that time period! . Cause of successes: Effectiveness of our core instruction with a specific focus on intentional and purposeful teaching and the intensity of student learning opportunities. Cause of challenges: How do we close the gap from 71% to 85% when we are doing great things already. Intensity of core instruction. Focus: We are going to focus specifically on intentional and purposeful instruction through the FIT (Framework for Intentional and Targeted Teaching) teaching model. Focus: PLC’s and being intentional on how we answer the four questions and implement our learning from those questions Completed on 10.6.17

Prairie Heights Connection with Focus 1 (We believe all children can learn at high levels) & Focus 2 (We believe educators matter most): Focus on Tier I & Tier II strategies (Yr. 4 PBIS) We are reviewing and strengthening our classroom approaches and building capacity with our teachers using Tier I strategies. Heights has many new faces this year so having conversations around these strategies has been extremely beneficial. All Heights teachers will be involved in the Blended Learning Module during our Professional Learning time. Professional Learning in Math The GWAEA math consultant will be doing three learning rounds with our teachers on Quick Images, Mental Math, and Number Strings. This professional learning will include modeling of the strategy; classroom observations with feedback; and then supported planning time for implementing these strategies through the support of the GWAEA math consultant and the district’s math curriculum lead. Heights Slide is completed. 10/5/17

Prairie Crest Focus 1: We believe all children can learn at high levels. Focus 2: We believe educators matter. Math Focus Implementation of Number Talks: Grade level teachers will implement 10 minute Number Talks lesson daily in addition to Core instruction. PLC Work PLC structure will support the analysis of math data and using a data-based decision making process, teams will identify mathematical power standard(s)/strand to teach and provide additional instructional opportunities using Meaningful Distributive Practice (MDP). SEL Continuation Year 4 and new school-wide theme of Allstars Continue biweekly SEL PLC meetings to analyze data and develop plans to help identified students needing additional supports.

Early Childhood Center Focus 1: We believe all children can learn at high levels. All CCSD Early Childhood Programs are NAEYC Accredited Professional learning around PBIS and ACES

Board Support Ongoing conversation and consideration around AK or early childhood programming Support our need to balance social-emotional needs with academic needs Ongoing professional learning support around social-emotional instruction Scott
