Methodology This example uses the Discovery ‘Level 2 Home Country Peer Analysis’ Dashboard and “AvLOS Spells Detail” tab (Discovery Level 2) Choose your Location from the drop down list Select an Admission Type and specific operations (based on 3 or 4 digit codes and descriptions) Functionality exist to type in a ‘Key word’ in the procedure search box to find specific procedures/codes Click Apply Click ‘View’ in the Discovery toolbar. Save this selected view Click ‘Share’ in Discovery toolbar, user can either email this link to their colleagues directly or copy the web-link into a separate document/email Save this view as a Discovery favourite or an internet favourite The functionality described here will work for all other Discovery Dashboards

Discovery Dashboard Level 2 Home Country Peer Analysis ‘AvLOS Spells Detail tab’ - Building a Bespoke View (1) 1. Choose your location, and any other selections required 2. User can exclude locations with low activity if required 3. Click on the ‘3 Digit Code + Description’ filter. The option box highlighted will appear. Untick ‘(All)’ Click in this box and you can type in a key word or code and the drop down list will reduce accordingly

In this example ‘E5’ has been typed and the options have been reduced to just those with ‘E5’ in the code and description. Make the selections you want from this list, by ticking the appropriate codes. If necessary, clear the key word selection and undertake a new key word search and again make these selections. 5. When you have finished selecting all the procedure codes that are required you must click ‘APPLY’. 6. The Dashboard will now be showing the only selected 3 digit procedure codes. The user can now undertake the same procedure using the “4 digit Code + Description” filter if the dashboard needs to be further refined.

Discovery Dashboard Level 2 Home Country Peer Analysis ‘AvLOS Spells Detail tab’ - Saving a Bespoke View 8. When you have made all of your selections, click the “View: Original” button on the Discovery toolbar. 9. This will open a ‘Saved View’ box where you can save different views you have created. This means that you only need to make the selection once and it can be saved. Name your view and click ‘Save’, and it will be saved within your My Views. Click on the view button to access your views for this suite of dashboards. 10. If you choose to make it your default. This means that this Dashboard will always open to this selected default view. Do not use the ‘Make it Public’ option

Once your selections have been made, you can now compare the information for all of your individual Peer Hospitals, across Scotland, Wales and England 12. A total summary for the selected procedures is also provided 13. A table at the bottom provides the information by specific 3 and 4 digit procedures. You can expand/collapse the chart to 3/4 digit procedures by clicking on the +/- buttons on the chart

Discovery Dashboard Level 2 Home Country Peer Analysis ‘AvLOS Spells Detail tab’ - Sharing a Bespoke View 14. To share your visualisation, click on the ‘Share’ button on the Discovery toolbar. 15. You can then either click on the ‘Email link’ button or to copy the web address from the ‘Link’ box into a separate email to send to colleagues. If your colleagues click on this link they will be taken to your view as long as they have appropriate Discovery access.

Navigating to Useful Dashboards Using Discovery Bookmarking Functionality 16. Once you have found a Dashboard you would like to bookmark there are a number of options: 17. You can use the Discovery A to Z Page 18. You can use the Discovery/tableau bookmarking functionality. Once you are on a Dashboard you want to favourite, click on this star. The star will turn gold when selected 19. This then saves this Dashboard tab as one of your favourites and you can get to it from anywhere within Discovery by clicking on the Discovery favourites star. A list of your favourite Discovery dashboard tabs appear, click on the one you want to go to.

Navigating to Useful Dashboards Using Internet Favourites 20. You can also use the internet provider favourites option to bookmark and navigate to useful Discovery dashboards Once you are on a dashboard you want to save, use the internet bookmarking favourites to save this to your browser. Click on the “Favourite” button next to the address bar (this may be a star). Click ‘Add to Favourites’ 21. A favourite box appears and you can name the favourite, and choose/create a folder to save it in. And then click ‘Add’ The next time you go to your favourite list (by clicking on the internet star) the Discovery dashboard link will be there.

Discovery Hints and Tips The A to Z page : highlights all the information available in Discovery and provides specific links to this information. Tool Tips: Throughout Discovery if the user hovers their cursor over any of the charts or data points a tool tip will appear with additional information Custom Views: Within each dashboard area it is possible to save specific visualisations (Custom Views) incorporating any filter selections the user has made. Pause button:- Clicking on the ‘Pause’ button allows users to make all of their filter selections at once rather than one at a time. Dynamic visualisations: Many of the dashboards in NSS Discovery are dynamic. This means that if you click on one area of a chart/table it will update the other areas/panels to reflect this choice. Exporting data from Discovery: To export data, select the chart or table containing the information you wish to export (by clicking on it), then click on the button (normally located near the top right of the dashboard) and choose the format you wish the data to be exported in. Metadata: - detailed metadata is available via the head icon at the top right of all dashboards.
