Channel Number Definitions Month 2002 doc.: IEEE 802.11-02/xxxr0 March 2004 Channel Number Definitions IEEE 802.11-1999 sub-clause 15.4.6.2 Centre frequency (MHz) = 2412 + 5 x (n - 1) for n = 1, 2, ... 13 Centre frequency (MHz) = 2484 for n = 14 IEEE 802.11a-1999 sub-clause 17.3.8.3.2: Centre frequency (MHz) = 5000 + 5 x n for n = 0, 1, ... 200 IEEE 802.11j/D1.3 sub-clause J.17.3.8.3.2: Centre frequency (MHz) = (dot11ChannelStartingFrequency x 0.5) + 5 x n for n = 0, 1, 2, ... 200 where dot11ChannelStartingFrequency = 8000 for channels between 4.9 and 5GHz dot11ChannelStartingFrequency = 10000 for channels above 5GHz The value NULL for nch shall be reserved, and a channel center frequency of 5.000 GHz shall be indicated by dot11ChannelStartingFrequency = 8 000 and nch = 200. Jennifer Bray (CSR) John Doe, His Company

Frequencies corresponding to channel ranges March 2004 Frequencies corresponding to channel ranges Channel 0 centre frequency Channel l79 centre frequency Channel 180 centre frequency Channel 199 Channel 200 802.11-1999 sub-clause 15.4.6.2 for channels 2412 Not defined for channels above 14 802.11-1999 sub-clause 17.3.8.3.2 for channels at and above 5GHz 5000 5895 5900 5995 6000 IEEE 802.11j/D1.3 for channels between 4.9 & 5GHz Not defined below 4.9GHz 4900 4995 For channels above 5GHz Channel 0 reserved One channel can correspond to multiple centre frequencies depending on the value of dot11ChannelStartingFrequency Jennifer Bray (CSR)

Handling of MLME-SCAN. request March 2004 Handling of MLME-SCAN. request Parameters of MLME-SCAN request are: MLME-SCAN.request ( BSSType, BSSID, SSID, ScanType, ProbeDelay, ChannelList, MinChannelTime, MaxChannelTime, Country) Where ChannelList could correspond to different frequency ranges, if applied with different values for dot11ChannelStartingFrequency. Question: Can the variable dot11ChannelStartingFrequency take a set of values or is it restricted to a single value? i.e. Can a single MLME-SCAN request be issued for channels that have different values for dot11ChannelStartingFrequency? Jennifer Bray (CSR)
