College Scholarship Opportunities FOR 8TH GRADE STUDENTS

THE BOBBY BRAGAN YOUTH FOUNDATION Every year BBYF hosts a scholarship competition only for 8th graders – ultimately choosing 34 students who win the promise of a $2,500 college scholarship after graduation from high school.

WHY IS COLLEGE IMPORTANT? Many jobs require a college degree – these include accountants, software developers, teachers, medical and health services managers, architects, coaches - the list goes on and on!

WHY IS COLLEGE IMPORTANT? During their lifetime college graduates earn an average of 51% more than those who have only a high school diploma – in fact, a college graduate can earn an average of $2.1 million during his or her career.

HOW TO APPLY Ask your 8th grade counselor or teacher for a Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation scholarship application…

HOW TO APPLY Fill out page 2 of the application, being sure to include all the information about what you’ve accomplished since 6th grade…

HOW TO APPLY Write a 500-700-word essay on your favorite role model – this can be a teacher, friend, relative – or maybe someone who is well-known and who inspires you…

HOW TO APPLY Have a parent or guardian sign at the bottom of page 2, and then turn your application in to your counselor or teacher by November 15th.

HOW TO APPLY From all the applications they receive, school staff will select two “finalists” to represent your school in the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation scholarship competition.

HOW TO APPLY In early March all finalists will receive a letter in the mail letting them know if they have been chosen to be one of this year’s 34 winners of a $2,500 college scholarship.

YOU’RE ON YOUR WAY! Whether you are a participant, finalist, or winner, you are on the road to success because you will know what it takes to qualify for other college scholarships – making college a reality in your future!
