Daycare Survey Conducted in October and November 11 area providers were surveyed and 10 responded Providers: Christ Lutheran Church, Juli Ketcham, Stepping Stones, Lisa Warkenthien, Happy Hearts, Cathy Kroger, Donna Sterret, WC KARE, Imagination Station, Melissa Mallinger, and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Daycare Survey Cont. Providers were asked to answer 8 questions: How would you classify your daycare? How many inquiries do you receive per month? How many children are you able to legally care for? How many children do you currently care for? What age groups do you serve? Do you provide lunch? Do you have a waitlist. If so, please provide details. Would you like to expand your daycare?

Survey Results Survey results here are interesting. While it might look initially that we don’t have a capacity issues – the reason is because KARE skews those numbers and because many folks are looking for early childcare.

Today’s Problem Lack of daycare providers and capacity for today’s population

Tomorrow’s Problem If there is a lack of capacity for today’s population then we’re nowhere close to the point where we can handle projected growth.

Why is it a problem? Larger businesses would be hesitant to locate in a community where their employees needs are not being met. Young families that are looking to live in a small community around Sioux Falls, where both parents are working, need daycare options. Without options in place, they are more likely to locate in a different community.

The Hartford Area Development Corporation has found that the current state of the supply of daycare options will constrict Hartford’s future growth. Our mission is to promote, preserve, and enhance the quality of life in Hartford. Therefore, we need to ensure that our residents needs are being met.

Solution – Request for Proposal To fill the need, the HADC would like to create a Request for Proposal (RFP) to help fill this need.

What is an RFP? An RFP is a formal process to fill a development need. The HADC will send out a letter to area providers alerting them to the need for expanded daycare options.

Thank you
