Virginia House of Burgesses

Who: Only wealthy, white, property owning males could be a burgess

What: did they do? They created laws for the colony of Virginia.

When: It was founded in 1619.

Where: Jamestown, Virginia.

Why is it important? The House of Burgesses was the first representative government (legislature) in North America.
