Presentation transcript:

Teams are judged on these categories: Through a wide array of programs, for middle, high school and college, NFPA’s efforts provide a bridge from the classroom to the community by engaging students in fluid power and connecting them to careers in the industry. NFPA’s flagship program, the Fluid Power Action Challenge event allows middle school students to learn how to plan, critically think, work together as a team to compete against each other to solve an engineering problem. On Workshop Day, students are given a full kit of tools and supplies they will need to prototype. Over the coming weeks, they fine tune their skills, develop a plan, and start building. On Challenge Day, teams only use the portfolio they’ve created and a new kit of identical supplies, to follow their own directions to recreate their unique device. Teams are judged on these categories: Design Teamwork Portfolio Interview Questions Total Machine Points Fluid Power Action Challenge Benefits: Gives support & resources to teachers for science & technology curriculum. Creates a learning environment where math & science are fun. Introduces students to careers in the manufacturing industry. NFPA understands that estimating cost is often crucial when evaluating educational opportunities for schools or classrooms. That’s why NFPA offers a $500 grant, that schools can apply for annually, to help keep fluid power in their communities.
