Farming Types of Farming

Types of Farming Arable farming Pastoral Farming Mixed Farming

Economic status Commercial farming Growing of crops or rearing of animals for sale and profit. Subsistence farming – growing crops or rearing animals in amounts to just be able to survive. Families struggle for survival.

Intensity of land use This depends on the ratio between capital, labour and land. Extensive farminig – where the land is very large compared to either the amount of money spent on it or the number of people working there. Intensive farming is when the farm size is small compared to either the number of people working there or the amount of money spent on it.

Land tenure Shifting and nomadic Farmers move from one place to another Sedentary Where farming and settlement are permanent
