HHFT Serves a population of 600,000 across Hampshire Employs 5,000 staff 3 Sites – Winchester, Basingstoke, Andover We will start by providing you with some information about HHFT – more of which can be found on the HHFT website Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust came into being in January 2012. This was as a result of the integration of Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust, and Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare Trust. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of about 600,000 across Hampshire and parts of west Berkshire. It employs approximately 5,000 staff The Trust provides treatment across several locations including hospitals in Winchester Basingstoke Andover 4th site The Trust is planning on building a Critical Treatment Hospital The plan is to centralise the care of the sickest into a Critical Treatment Hospital, alongside a Cancer Treatment Centre, and provide most of our care as locally as possible. Although this may not be built for a few years its worth bearing in mind that there will be some great employment opportunities in a few years time – working in an acute clinical environment

Why HHFT? Winchester and Basingstoke sites allows for easy train journey or driving to London and easy access to South West We are one large trust but on 3 smaller 3 sites – from students who have had their practice placements with us have feedback that there is a very friendly atmosphere on the sites get to know your way around and recognise people quickly Staff currently are provided with Free parking To provide outstanding care we know the Trust is aware that it needs to provide staff with training and development opportunities. For those of you who have recently looked at the Trust website you may have seen information about the possibility of Rotations in a variety of clinical areas – enabling staff to get the best opportunities to suit their career – if this is something that sounds of interest to you please contact the recruitment team for more information. Child Health has a specific preceptorship rotation programme that enables newly qualified staff to consolidate their paediatric experience across our services in acute settings - this includes medicine & general surgery with some orthopaedics, ambulatory, neonatal, community children’s nurses We also aim to help support dual field qualified staff who choose to work in ED so that they can also consolidate their paediatric knowledge.

Our Trust Values Compassion, caring about our patients & staff Accountable and responsible, always improving Respect for all colleagues, patients and their families Encouraging & challenging each other to always do our best From your practice placements you will probably have gathered that all Trusts have their own set of Values we expect all staff to abide by Definitely something that will be relevant to refer to in interviews

Preceptorship What is it? Qualifying is an exciting time but with it comes a degree of anxiety – at HHFT we recognise that this is a crucial time transitioning from student to qualified registrant – and we therefore provide a supportive and comprehensive preceptorship programme during this transitional period The preceptorship programme equips Newly Qualified Nurses & Midwives with skills & confidence at the outset to deliver high quality care Its aim is to build on the newly qualified practitioners confidence and competence in their new Role’ The programme aims to continue the lifelong learning process from the point of registration and onwards as staff gain experience within their professions. Newly qualified nurses, midwives, RTP nurses, AHPs, Health Scientists For the midwives and paediatric nurses there are, in addition, some specific study days and others where you will join with the general preceptor days. For other professions, such as Physios and OTs and Healthcare scientists we are aware that not all preceptees require attendance at every study day on offer depending on their professional group and field of expertise , but it is open to all and which study days you attend will be following a discussion with your line manager Our preceptorship programme is currently a year in length, and we aim to run two programme a year – in the autumn and in the spring The Spring programme is likely to start at the end of February

We provide a series of study days that run throughout the year to support you in developing your clinical knowledge and skills so that you can become a confident, safe and competent practitioner Vary from end of life care to communication skills training to updates in Learning disabilities and Fundamentals of care The focus of the study days is very much linked with Trust values, clinical updates, safe practice and acuity skills All participate in a service improvement project The preceptorship programme starts you on the journey of life long learning – and supports your continuing professional development and reflection in practice with regards to the requirements from the governing body you will belong to, whether this is the NMC or HCPC As well as providing a series of study days you will be provided with a preceptorship portfolio and Administration of Oral Medications workbook and also will be supported by a preceptor
