Landforms and Water

What are landforms? The natural shapes or features on the earth’s surface are called landforms. There are many different types of landforms found on the earth.

mountain                                       A mountain is a place on Earth’s surface that is much higher than the land around it.

hills Hills are rounded, raised areas of land that are not as high as mountains.

valley                 A valley is a low area between higher lands such as mountains or hills.

island An island is land that is completely surrounded by water.

lake A lake is water that is completely surrounded by land.

ocean Oceans are the largest bodies of water on earth.

coast A coast is the area where the ocean touches the land.

desert A desert is a dry area that gets very little rainfall.

river A river is a long flowing body of water.

continents Continents are the seven largest masses of land on the earth. Can you name all seven?
