Daily Warm-Up Dec. 12th Transcribe this DNA segment 3’- ATCATTAAACGC – 5’ What enzyme does the transcribing? Which direction must the enzyme read the strand Homework: -Read 13.2 Turn in: -12.3 questions if haven’t already

Translation Where did transcription occur? Where does translation occur? Ribosome (cytoplasm) Made up of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) Creation of a polypeptide from mRNA

Polypeptides Composed of amino acids Codons= set of 3 nucleotides 20 Why this number? Start codon= AUG Stop codons= UAA, UAG, UGA

Translation Ribosome takes in the mRNA and translates it from 5’ to 3’. Transfer RNA (tRNA) brings amino acids from the cytoplasm to the ribosome.

tRNA and Anticodons tRNA matches up with mRNA. Anticodons on tRNA match up with the codons on mRNA

Translation Steps Initiation- need start codon Elongation- creation of polypeptide chain Termination- stop codon

Translate this sequence TATAAAATCCGCAAC
