FDR’s Goals in Alleviating Great Depression 1932 Election Democratic Candidate FDR won the presidency Democrats also gained control of the Congress with a large majority FDR & his advisors planned programs – The New Deal – to solve the economic problem, with following goals To provide relief for the needy To have economic recovery To do financial reform

Main Programs Important laws to expand federal government’s power Declared “Bank Holiday” – “Emergency Banking Relief Act” was passed Glass-Steagall Act established FDIC
