Biblical foundations for missional church C T Samuel

MISSION IS A KEY BIBLICAL AND THEOLOGICAL CONCEPT

MISSION IS PRIMARILY THE ACTIVITY OF GOD AND ONLY SECONDARILY AN ACTIVITY OF THE CHURCH.

Christian mission needs to be set into a wider context than the Church

Human engagement in mission is at best joining the prior activity of God

Mission necessarily requires the Church to be interested in more than making new Christians

God has a broader mission than making new disciples God has a broader mission than making new disciples. God is interested in the redemption of the entire cosmos

MISSION IS A KEY BIBLICAL AND THEOLOGICAL CONCEPT

The inherent problem in the Pauline corpus is that they are for the most part instructions for how not to be

5 MISSIONAL FEATURES 1. Missional Church has tangible faith 2 5 MISSIONAL FEATURES 1. Missional Church has tangible faith 2. Missional Church is infused by Love

3. Missional Church pursues costly discipleship 4 3. Missional Church pursues costly discipleship 4. Mission cannot be disentangled from holiness 5. Missional Church is founded on eschatological hope

MISSIONAL CHURCH HAS TANGIBLE FAITH

A missional church is not merely able to speak persuasively about propositional truths of the gospel; their words are supported by deeds that can stand the test of time

MISSIONAL CHURCH IS INFUSED BY LOVE

It is difficult to overestimate how significant love is for mission It is difficult to overestimate how significant love is for mission. It is not enough to engage in mission because we love God. We are also to love the people we engage in mission

MISSIONAL CHURCH PURSUES COSTLY DISCIPLESHIP

MISSION CANNOT BE DISENTANGLED FROM HOLINESS

MISSIONAL CHURCH IS FOUNDED ON ESCHATOLOGICAL HOPE
