The Adventures of Superman

“The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’” “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. Genesis 3:1-6 NLT

At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees. Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He replied, “I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked.” “Who told you that you were naked?” the Lord God asked. “Have you eaten from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat?” The man replied, “It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it.”” Genesis 3:7-12 NLT

“…she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too “…she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.” v. 6 SILENCE – refusing to engage, act, or step-up when leadership is needed

“So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.” v. 7 DISINGENUOUSNESS – giving a false appearance

“So they hid from the Lord” v. 8 AVOIDANCE – clearing away, dodging, or refusing to confront

“It was the woman YOU gave me…” v. 12 EXCUSABLENESS – removing & shifting blame; ignoring all sense of responsibility

Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” v. 9 The man (husband/father) is called to be the responsible force in the family. Ensuring provision for, protection over, and God’s presence in the entire family.   Responsible – having the job or duty of dealing with or taking care of something or someone. Merriam Webster’s The responsible person is also the intended leader of the family.

1. Worshipping our FATHER The Primary Responsibilities of Every Man:   1. Worshipping our FATHER ““All your men are to appear before the Master, the GOD of Israel, three times a year. You won’t have to worry about your land when you appear before your GOD three times each year, for I will drive out the nations before you and give you plenty of land. Nobody’s going to be hanging around plotting ways to get it from you.” Exodus 34:23-24 MSG

The Primary Responsibilities of Every Man:   2. Nurturing our Wives “…husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church.”  Ephesians 5:28-29 NLT

3. Developing our Children The Primary Responsibilities of Every Man:   3. Developing our Children “Fathers, don’t exasperate your children by coming down hard on them. Take them by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master.” Ephesians 6:4 MSG

4. Growing Christ’s Church The Primary Responsibilities of Every Man:   4. Growing Christ’s Church “…among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man [Jesus] came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”” Matthew 20:26-28 NLT

The Primary Responsibilities of Every Man:   5. IMPACTING our World ““Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage. “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:13-16 MSG
