MOVIE SOUNDTRACK: Poetic Justice Jai-Monae Jimerson 1/8/18 7th Hour

Introduction I chose the movie Poetic Justice because I felt the movie had a great soundtrack already and a great plot behind it as well. I wanted to remake the soundtrack as if were a more modern movie.

Background Information Released in 1993 Won awards for MTV Movie Award for Best Female Performance and MTV Movie Award for Most Desirable Female Starred Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur Main idea of the movie was to show how black women in South Central (and all over) were affected by the black men in their lives dying.

Song #1: Poetic Justice- Kendrick Lamar ft. Drake Poetic Justice(the movie): In the beginning, Justice asks her current boyfriend Markell why he loves her and he is unsure. Later on, he comes back and says “Hey Justice! I also love you ‘cus when I was in the county jail, you wrote me alotta sweet poems.” Poetic Justice(the song): “Everybody else basic, you live life on an everyday basis with Poetic Justice.” To me, this line refers to the fact that Justice could’ve chose to let Markell do his time without showing him any attention. Song #2: Insecure-Jazmine Sullivan ft. Bryson Tiller Poetic Justice: The scene where Lucky, Chicago, Iesha, and Justice were on a road trip in the mail truck is when Iesha and Chicago got into an argument. Chicago puts his hands on Iesha and that leads to them breaking up Insecure: “You be on your Suge Knight, always trynna fight. You a bully or my lover? Are you my man or my big brother? Baby something's wrong with this picture You make it hard to wanna stay with ya I'm your lady, not a slave You my man, not my master, I'll escape.” These lyrics make a connection between many abusive relationships and describe how Chicago treats Iesha accurately. Song #4: Love Don’t Change-Jeremih Poetic Justice: In the final scene of the movie, Lucky returns to the shop to let Justice meet his daughter Keisha. After he introduces them, Justice and Lucky hesitate for a minute then kiss. The movie ends with Justice reciting a poem and looking into Lucky’s eyes and smiling while doing Keisha’s hair. Love Don’t Change: This song matches the mood of the scene because it is about knowing when you’re in love and tolerating that person despite what has gone on in the past. Conclusion If Poetic Justice was remade with today’s actors and music, these are a few soundtracks I feel would fit these situations almost as well as the original ones. The lyrics in most of these cases nearly match the entire scene and set the same mood that is necessary.
