PROJECT UPDATE AND DISCUSSION

What is PLSR? The Public Library System Redesign (PLSR) is a community process to consider changes and new models to provide system services to public libraries.

The process was established by DPI Tony Evers appointed a Steering Committee that includes individuals from around the state at all size libraries. John DeBacher Director, Public Library Development, Department of Public Instruction John T. Thompson Director, Indianhead Federated Library System Stephen R. Ohs Director, Lakeshores LS Paula Kiely Director, Milwaukee Public Library Bridget C. Christenson Director, Hatch Public Library, Mauston Beth A. Carpenter Director, Kimberly-Little Chute Public Library Kristie L. Hauer Director, Shawano City-County Library Kent A. Barnard Director, Patterson Memorial Library, Wild Rose Jessamyn C. Lee-Jones Director, Platteville Public Library Bryan J. McCormick Director, Hedberg Public Library, Janesville Jon Mark Bolthouse Director, Fond du Lac Public Library

The process is community-led 100+ people from all over the state, from all types of libraries and with all sorts of backgrounds and expertise are involved Workgroups have formed around 9 service areas: Chapter 43 Consulting Continuing Education Delivery Electronic Resources Interlibrary Loan (ILS) ILS/Resource Discovery Resource Libraries Technology

More about workgroups Workgroups are made up of: Experts Users Leaders/facilitators Steering Liaison DPI Liaison WiLS project manager Feedback welcome and needed!

The process relies on (a lot) information Out-of-state information gathering In-state information gathering  Encouraging workgroups to talk with others  

The intent of the process is to develop new models of service in order to implement change to systems as we know them today The workgroups: have established “desired service outcomes” will be developing outlines of models for WLA conference have no preconceived notions! will look for community feedback will demonstrate effectiveness and make changes based on feedback and analysis. will create implementation plans

The workgroup process will continue through March 2018 Taking the time to get the details right   Overall administration and implementation work will happen after March 2018
