1st Q, wk #7 Sept. 25-29, 2017

Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 25-26, Honors Some will be testing for writing on the Retest of FSA ELA You have these two days to spend in class writing your essay comparing/contrasting the historical Salem witch trials to Act I of The Crucible No written Bellringer these two days

Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 25-26, 4th per. You have these two days in class to rewrite your VLT Argumentative essay for a better grade on your summative writing grade No written bellringer these two days

Wed, 9/27, Hon. Bellringer Get back in groups and re-examine paragraphs from last Friday to make sure they are completed and perfected.

Wed., 9/27 Bellringer, 4th per. Pick up writing workshop materials from last Friday and find the folder you were working with

9/27 Activity, Hon. When you are finished with your group paragraphs, come get your VLT from me to view my feedback of your first writing. You may choose one body paragraph to rewrite to see if you can improve your Evidence and Elaboration score. If there are other areas of your paper that need improvement, speak to me one on one about what you can do to improve your grade. VLT’s MUST REMAIN IN THE CLASSROOM. All improvements must be stapled to the original to receive any credit. If you do not finish your improvements in class today, hand them in and come back at lunch to finish.

9/27 Reg. Activity Finish the writing workshop activities and turn your papers into the tray for a formative grade

9/28 Hon. Bellringer Make a page into Cornell note style. On the left, ask this question: “How can each of these words be used in a sentence that shows the meaning of the word? On the right, Make a sentence using each of these words Make sure your sentence reflects the correct meaning of the word. pulpit –an elevated platform or high reading desk used in preaching or conducting a worship service; a preaching profession faction – a party or group (as within a government) that is often contentious or self-seeking abomination – something that causes extreme disgust or hatred naught – nothing; old fashioned way to say “nothing” clamored – to utter or proclaim insistently and noisily; to become loudly insistent

9/28 Bellringer, 4th per. Take out your charts of words for Act I that you created. Make sure you have these on your chart and fill in the correct meaning for each: pulpit –an elevated platform or high reading desk used in preaching or conducting a worship service; a preaching profession faction – a party or group (as within a government) that is often contentious or self-seeking abomination – something that causes extreme disgust or hatred naught – nothing; old fashioned way to say “nothing” clamored – to utter or proclaim insistently and noisily; to become loudly insistent

9/28 Activity, Hon and Reg Closely read the pbs article entitled “The Witches’ Curse” and on a separate piece of paper answer the attached writing question, using specific information from the text to support your answer. This paragraph will be graded according to the 4 point scale on the writing rubric for evidence and elaboration (4=100, 3=80, 2=70, 1=60) Please work quietly and independently; your answers are due by the end of class. Keep article in your folder, and place written answer in the tray.

Bellringer, 9/29 Reg. and Hon. I have half sheets of paper on the red tray that you may use to write today’s bellringer. DON’T FORGET TO PUT YOUR NAME ON IT. Would a newspaper article be considered informative writing, argumentative writing, or personal writing. Why? Explain how a newspaper article fits the style of writing you picked.

Activity, 9/29 Reg. and Hon. Today you are receiving the assignment for your next summative— writing a newspaper article about Act I of The Crucible. Please note the due date—that is the LAST day I am accepting it before I score it. (If you are absent on a due date, it is due when you walk back into my classroom.) Look at my examples to guide you. (My examples will also be posted on my dhswolves.com website page.) All the resources, as well as this assignment, will be posted on my webpage in case you are away from school working on it and need to refer to something.
