Project Name: Cost effectiveness analysis on addressing future water shortages in Ha. Ihavandhoo.

Water Usage

Shortage Now Current supply Amount of water Current demand Months

Increase in water shortage Current supply Future demand Future supply Amount of water Current demand Months

Addressing the water shortage A cost effective analysis is to be carried out OPTION 1 Build a reverse osmosis plant OPTION 2 Build community water tanks OPTION 3 Option 1 + Option 2 OPTION 4 Increase the water storage capacity of the households OPTION 5 Continue to transport water during the time of shortage Please note that taking no action and letting household deal with the shortages on their own is not an option. – No project is NOT an option

Current progress We have carried out household survey of water consumption and health. With the help of demographic statistics and climate change projections, future water demand for Ihavandhoo has been forecasted.

Way Forward Continue cleaning the data Carry out a clinic survey. Calculate the costs involved in ALL options. Health benefits to be assessed for option 1 Complete the cost effective analysis Request Ms. Mariana to send Dr. Benoit to Maldives Prepare the final report and presentation

Lessons Learnt Addressing Climate change impacts not only a job of climate scientists, SHOULD be multi-disciplinary Making economic analysis is not only job of economists, also multi-disciplinary Economic way of thinking should be a part of addressing climate change issues
