Lesson Objectives: 1. To understand stereotypes and consider how and why they are used in the media 2. To textually analyse how groups are represented in three different media forms

PART 1: Stereotyping in the media

Stereotype definition A commonly held assumption about a group of people which is often based on some kind of reality but is essentially untrue and usually prejudicial.

TASK ONE: Identify at least two stereotypes for the following groups

British Politicians

Male primary school teachers

Muslims

Blonde women

Young boys

Female drivers

Black British teenage boys

Japanese man

Consider the following questions and write your answers in your book

Are all stereotypes negative?
