The City of Martin – short introduction it is the 8.biggest city in Slovakia the first written mention: 1284 altitude: 390 m above the sea; area: 6 774 ha population: 60 thousand, unemployment rate: 14% the city of Martin is placed in the central Slovakia, in the region, which is called Turiec main industry : book-printing (Neografia), shoe making (Ecco), car production (Volkswagen), seat-covers making (Trim Leader), National Council of SR legitimized the city of Martin as the center of national culture of the Slovaks. It happened on August 24-th, 1994.
