Tuesday, September 19th Today’s Learning Target: I applied the Elements of Fiction to the story of “How a Grinch Stole Christmas” Please turn your reading log into your period’s drop bin!!

An example Of Freytag’s Pyramid

Exposition Setting: Who-ville Inhabitants: You guessed it, “Who”s; and they “liked Christmas a lot” The Grinch: 53 year old male, Lives North of Who-ville, and he hates Christmas; possibly because his “head wasn’t screwed on just right.” Or because his shoes were too tight (The much more likely cause). Hates singing the most. Lives with his dog, Max.

Inciting incident/Rising Action The Grinch got a wonderful, awful idea (inciting incident– makes the day different than any other day. Makes a Santy Claus hat and a coat. Involves Max. Commits felony after felony. Steals everything Christmas related and even food. This guy’s shoes are way too tight. Who-ville needs to invest in a Footlocker or a Payless. Lies to Little Cindy-Lou, and sends her back to bed. Makes his way back up the mountain with EVERYTHING.

Climax Mt Crumpit – a literal cliff What’s my name?? Listens for the sound of Who-sadness Merry Sound Singing The Grinch Ponders His heart grows (I still say it was the shoes) Decides to take everything back

Falling Action

Resolution The boy cuts the roast beast (and they ate happily ever after)

Closure What was the inciting incident for the story? Name one part of the rising action: What was the climax? What was the resolution?
