Communication Tips (Pages 21-22 of Report) Slide 41 (Pages 21-22 of the Report)   [CLICK] [CLICK] [CLICK] [CLICK] (Trainer: have participants turn to pages 21-22) Please read over the Communication Tips in your DISC Report on pages 21 & 22. These reference pages are a great overview of each of the styles. They will also be shortly helpful, as you work in groups with an assigned Case Scenario. The left hand side are the characteristics, whereas the right hand side of each quadrant are the recommended actions/behaviors that, when used, encourage receptivity from that person. [CLICK]

Your communication strategy with Sam? DISC Styles – Case Scenarios (Pages 23-24 of Report) Case Study #1 Sam’s prominent style? Your communication strategy with Sam? Case Study #2 Chris’s prominent style? Your communication strategy with Chris? Case Study #3 Igor’s prominent style? Your communication strategy with Igor? Case Study #4 Doris’s prominent style? Your communication strategy with Doris? Slide 42 (Pages 23-24 of the Report)   As you read each of the following four scenarios you will be introduced to a new hypothetical co-worker. You will receive a brief explanation of their communication interactions, providing you with clues so you can determine their Natural (Graph II) Style. Then you will discover the communication challenge you are being asked to resolve. (See prior two pages, on Communication Tips, for helpful suggestions.) --- Case Study #1 - Response Example: Sam is a S. Schedule a 15 minute conversation with Sam. Prior to the meeting, identify past successes that you & Sam had, even though deadlines were moved-up. Determine what resources or methods you can offer Sam, so he will feel supported. During your conversation with him share with him what you are doing yourself to accommodate the moved-up deadline. Reassure him success is still obtainable. Remind of the prior similar situations you both have faced together and both produced exceptional outcomes. Case Study #2 - Response Example: Chris is a C. I would let Chris know ahead of time that you have a potential new process to discuss in the next meeting. When you come to the meeting (unless you have it all documented and can send ahead of time to Chris), you tell them the process and why you feel it would be a solution. In addition you give her documentation(s) that would point out the pros and cons of doing it your way. You will need to be very prepared with facts. Upon concluding the meeting, ask if they need time to think about the new process and thank them for all of their thoughtful decisions and feedback they would like to share, thanking them again for her time. Case Study #3 – Response Example: Igor style is I; Since Igor would prefer to know the general expectations of the assignment - I would focus on his role By explaining the outcome Igor will know the importance it would be for him to assist with the project. I would express that my project is a team effort and what did he need from me to help him be successful Trainer Tips: Possible feedback options for you. Great… you made him the “center of the universe!” in the big picture. Superb! They like concepts.. not details. You will have totally won Igor over with this strategy! Great approach! This will help Igor be focused & not derail him from his other commitments. Case Study #4 – Response Example: Doris’ preferred style is D. Communication strategies to use with Doris include: Provide bottom-line facts, in writing that show why your recommendation is the most profitable. Best to provide several recommendations that you believe are suitable, so that Doris can select the one she sees as the winner. Allow situation so that she can assert her stamp of approval, so she can maintain a sense of being in control. Speak in a confident voice, prepare to be challenged and anticipate questions. [CLICK]
