End of year expectations – Early Learning Goals Number Children count reliably with numbers 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or less than a given number Using quantities of objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the number They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing

End of year expectations – Early Learning Goals Shape, Space and Measures Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, distance, time and money to compare quantities, and objects and to solve problems They recognise, create and describe patterns They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them

How we teach maths Daily teaching – whole class/group Group/individual teacher led activities Independent activities as part of continuous provision Child initiated activities

How you can help at home Make it fun! Make it relevant – practical activities are best Make it part of everyday Play games Practise counting – forwards and backwards in 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s
