Animal Farm – Chapter 10 Today, we’re going to read Chapter 10 of Animal Farm together. As we read, I’ll go slowly and stop often. Feel free to annotate as we read – it’ll help you on our final test  Don’t forget – we have a test on Friday over Animal Farm!

Direct vs Indirect Characterization Today, we’re going to look at examples of direct and indirect characterization using Benjamin the donkey. First, read through the left-hand column on your page. Highlight, circle, or underline all examples of direct characterization, or important adjectives the author uses to reveal Benjamin’s character. Afterwards, read the four passages in the middle of the page. On top of each passage, place a sticky note (I will place a stack on each group’s tower) describing what Benjamin’s actions or dialogue reveals about his personality.

Fixed vs Growth Political Mindset What kind of political mindset does Benjamin the donkey have? Fixed vs Growth Political Mindset Having a growth mindset is an important aspect of success and a key indicator of how successful and happy a person will become. Luckily, this is a skill that can be learned and mastered with practice! Fixed Mindset: Believe success is a result of chance, luck, and/or genetics. Tend to think some people are “just good at” certains things and some people are “just bad at” others. Believe things are out of their control. Growth Mindset: People who believe their talents can be developed by persistently working towards goals, strategically learning about solutions, seek input from others. Believe they have the power to shape their own future. Tend to achieve more than fixed mindset people.

Fixed vs Growth Political Mindset Think about Benjamin’s fixed political mindset. How could his mindset change to better benefit his country? Read the excerpts from Animal Farm about Benjamin. Then, rewrite each scene in the box if Benjamin had a growth political mindset instead of fixed.

Fixed vs Growth Political Mindset IXL for the week: K.1 and K.3 Fixed vs Growth Political Mindset Hidden around the room, there are 10 quotes about politics. Your job is to find them, and for each quote, do the following things in the corresponding box on your handout: Write the first sentence of the quote Determine whether the quote shows a fixed of growth political mindset Rewrite each quote from the perspective of a person with the opposite type of mindset. For example, if the quote shows a growth mindset, rewrite it from the perspective of someone with a fixed mindset.
