Compare and contrast ecosystems: tidal ecosystem Venn Diagram: desert ecosystem

Ecosystem All of the living (biotic) and nonliving (abiotic) things that interact in a particular area Examples: desert, forest, jungle, tide pools… Can you classify items in our Venn Diagram as biotic and abiotic?

How are these living things different? golden mole plants

Producers vs consumers Producer: living thing that makes its own food Consumer: living thing that gets energy by eating other things

Can you spot any features that help this animal survive? desert fox vs lesser jerboa

Adaptations Behaviors or characteristics that help plants or animals survive in the environment Ex: long legs of the Jerboa, powerful nose of the fox

Adaptation experiment Dip your fingers in ice cold water, how do penguins withstand such cold for long periods of time? Predict what will happen if you smother your finger in Crisco before dipping it in the water.
