What will I be studying in Geography? You will be following the Edexcel GCSE Geography A course. You will receive a grade between 9 and 1.
Physical Geography ● Landscapes in the UK, coasts and rivers ● Weather hazards (drought and tropical storms) and climate change ● Ecosystems (deciduous woodlands and tropical rainforests) and how to manage them
Human Geography ● Changing cities in the UK and developing/emerging countries ● Global development and challenges that affect a developing/ emerging country ● Resources – the distribution of food, energy and water and how they are managed
Geographical Investigations and UK challenges ● Fieldwork - A physical fieldtrip (rivers) and a human fieldtrip (rural areas in Ambleside) ● UK challenges - Physical and human challenges in the UK (e.g. population growth, conservation of National Parks, climate change etc.
Assessment: You will take 3 exams at the end of Year 11. You will also be given some marks for your spelling, punctuation, grammar and the used of geographical terminology. Exam 1: The physical environment Time: 1 hour and 30 minutes Worth: 37.5% of the qualification ● Topic 1: The changing landscapes of the UK (geology, coasts and rivers) ● Topic 2: Weather hazards and climate change ● Topic 3: Ecosystems, biodiversity and management
Exam 2: The human environment Time: 1 hour and 30 minutes Worth: 37.5% of the qualification ● Topic 1: Changing cities ● Topic 2: Global development ● Topic 3: Resource management Exam 3: Geographical Investigations: Fieldwork and UK Challenges Time: 1 hour and 30 minutes Worth: 25% of the qualification ● Topic 1: Geographical investigations – physical (rivers fieldtrip) ● Topic 2: Geographical investigations – human (Ambleside fieldtrip) ● Topic 3: UK challenges
