What my teacher expects of me: A greater level of RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY Use manners and be polite to EVERYONE The ability to follow a schedule My BEST at all times Headers (Name, date, and assignment title) on all papers every time To do my classwork/homework (and turn it in on time) To be prepared for class To use my brain

What are the expectations of 5th grade? Respect is shown to all. Everyone raises their hands to talk or ask for help. Soft voices and appropriate language is used. Participation is expected of all, students and teachers. Everyone comes to class prepared. Class begins on time, so be on time. Teacher’s directions are followed the first time.

What can I expect of 5th grade? Subject matter will get harder, but you will learn more too. You will work harder than you ever thought you could. You will learn how to take notes from text and other media. You will be held accountable for your choices. You will be ready for middle school when the year is over. You will have fun and learn new things.

New stuff: Agendas how they should be filled out your responsibilities for the agenda as the parent Safety Patrol (applications have been submitted) Student Council (application at the end of August, need recommendation letter from NON-family member) All-State Choir Pittsburgh field trip Carnegie Science Center Clubs Friday afternoons during school

Mrs. Hoover’s class only New stuff: Mrs. Hoover’s class only Class Jobs – job application Paycheck Pay rent Manage a checking account/write a check

What will stay the same? School-wide rules and policies will not change. However, you will be expected to follow them. We will still use the school-wide PBIS where your child will be given tickets (which can be used for rewards and BAES bucks) for following and exceeding expectations.

Lockers: Books will be kept in lockers 4 locker trips each day First thing in the morning Right before recess After lunch End of the day Locks for your lockers is fine As long as the teacher has the combination or a spare key (just in case)

Important info: Attendance counts towards field trips Instructional time begins at 8 am daily Instructional time ends at 3:10 pm daily Recess is before lunch this year (11:20-11:50) Lunch is 11:50-12:20 Class will resume immediately thereafter Water bottles are permitted Clear, sugar-free water only Supplies will be provided Replacement supplies will be purchased using PBIS tickets EXTRA MILK WILL NOT BE SOLD THIS YEAR

What can I send to school with my child? We provide all the supplies your child will need for school. If they need something, we will make you aware of this ahead of time. If you’d still like to send something in for your child’s class, here’s a list of appreciated items: Tissues Paper towels Napkins Paper plates Plastic utensils Hand sanitizer Ziploc bags (varying sizes based on teacher) Band-Aids (various sizes)
