Using data to shepherd your church Generis.com/RENOVATE Craig Loscalzo, Ph.D. Generosity Strategist

Data?? Really?? Understanding giving data and being able to interpret it and develop a strategy around it can revolutionize how you lead your church and care for your people.

What I don’t know will hurt me and my ministry! Why Data? What I don’t know will hurt me and my ministry!

Seven pitfalls we discover during the Generosity Audit. Why Data? Seven pitfalls we discover during the Generosity Audit.

Pitfall #1 Most churches (98%) do nothing with first time givers, missing opportunities to connect on multiple levels with those who have decided to invest in the ministry.

Pitfall #2 Senior leaders have no access to giving records, so they have no way of using up ticks or down ticks in giving as opportunities for creating ministry contact.

Pitfall #3 Churches have no real knowledge about the actual state of their giving. They know the bottom line, but they have no idea what’s going on with individual givers and the giver base.

Pitfall #4 Churches have no idea that there is a donor back door, let alone how to fix it.

Pitfall #5 Churches seldom celebrate wins, and even when they do celebrate wins they don’t connect the dots to the faithful giving that’s making ministry possible.

Church leaders don’t realize that giving is a systemic issue. Pitfall #6 Church leaders don’t realize that giving is a systemic issue.

Pitfall #7 Advancement of stewardship is typically focused around needs rather than around ministry impact.

What Data? Giving data gives you a picture about where your church is. When you know where your church is, you are able to move them to where you believe God is leading you to be.
