Case Details : Mary is 38 years old African American female , she has diagnosed by Type 1 diabetes Mellitus at age 11 . She has not taken her diabetes condition seriously and does not maintain adequate control of her blood glucose levels . At one day she visited the clinic to have annual check up and her prescription for insulin is renewed . Mary checks her blood pressure at the pharmacy whenever she picks up her prescriptions and she has noticed that it has been high recently . She doesn’t follow a healthy diet and doesn’t maintain a regular exercise program .

Cont : At the last clinic visit , her blood pressure was 143/ 92 mmHg . Six weeks earlier it was 147/98 mmHg . Her heart rate was 110 bpm and her respiratory rate was 16 breath per minute . She has a normal temperature with +2 pitting edema at both of her legs . She smokes 1 pack per day . Her mother died of Myocardial infarction at the age of 54 years .

# Laboratory FINDINGS : Electrolytes : within the normal level . Urine analysis : 1.2 g protein / 24 hours . Serum creatinine : 1.6 mg / dl . Glucose : 150 mg / dl . HbA1c : 10 % . Total cholesterol : 265 mg / dl . LDL : 173 mg / dl . HDL : 32 mg / dl . T.G : 300 mg / dl

Based on this results Mary was diagnosed to have hypertension due to diabetes .
