MyiLibrary and Patron Driven Acquisition at SIU-Carbondale Jonathan Nabe & Andrea Imre CARLI eBook Symposium March 4, 2009

Background History With Ebooks Patron Driven Acquisition NetLibrary Megacollections (Sabin, LION, EEBO) Reference titles (and Credo) Patron Driven Acquisition Greater Western Library Alliance End of year money

Inner Workings License agreement Deposit $ according to institutional needs Titles accessed 2 times charged against that account Monthly usage reports and invoices Unlimited # of concurrent users No ILL allowed

Selection

MARC records

MARC Records Evaluated Record quality Customized as needed Filtered out duplicates of SIUC print holdings (479 titles) Bulk load of 8540 records into catalog End of contract adjustment – only purchased records remain New MARC records for new books published since last load

Invoicing Monthly itemized invoice based on use Some problems: Monthly invoice does not total the charges Manually add them and compare with separate spreadsheet which provides the account balance Incorrect invoicing; numbers do not add up

Assessment Numbers are increasing We have purchased 75 titles in 3 months (and 584 have been accessed at least once) Average price is $111.00
