Some ideas for 2015 “SOLO is our language of learning” SOLO at StAC Some ideas for 2015 “SOLO is our language of learning” http://classes.stac.school.nz/course/view.php?id=610

Pre-structural Uni-structural Multi-structural Relational Extended Abstract Ideas I need help I can’t start the task I don’t want to “Clueless” I have one idea “Heard of it” I have a number of unrelated ideas. “Getting there” I have a number of ideas and I can link them in a relevant way “Got it” I have a number ideas, I can link them in a relevant way and I can apply it in a new context. “Owned it!” Functional Descriptor I need help to I can if I am prompted or directed. I use several strategies to but I am not sure when and or why to use them. (trial and error – aware of strategies but not sure why or when to use them so makes mistakes) I use several strategies to and I know when and why to use them. (strategic or purposeful use of strategies – knows why and when ). I use several strategies to and I know when and why to use them. I can teach others to….. I act as a role model for others to help them I seek feedback on how to improve how I can ….. Reminder of SOLO symbols / ideas

Create your own rubric for something you have tried to master over the holidays, eg relaxing, baking, gardening – and decide where you are at Share with your neighbour

Select, develop, and communicate ideas on a range of topics. Demonstrate willingness to accept challenges, learn new skills and strategies, and extend their abilities in movement-related activities. Select, develop, and communicate ideas on a range of topics. Generalise properties of multiplication and division with whole numbers. Understand how people pass on and sustain culture and heritage for different reasons and that this has consequences for people. Understand how producers and consumers exercise their rights and meet their responsibilities Explore ideas about how music serves a variety of purposes and functions in their lives and in their communities. Explore and use art-making conventions, applying knowledge of elements and selected principles through the use of materials and processes. Use conventions to structure drama. Introduce curriculum achievement objectives – these are all level 4 – choose one that is relevant to you and attempt to tease it into a rubric Understand that materials can be formed, manipulated, and/or transformed to enhance the fitness for purpose of a technological product. Begin to use a range of scientific symbols, conventions, and vocabulary. Recognise and describe ways in which the target language is organised.

How could Basic, Proficient, Advanced fit with SOLO? Where does it fit, could be different for different subjects, levels, AO’s but can give a guide for students and teachers. Basic = pre / uni Proficient = multi / rel Advanced = relational / EA

We need to work together to be most successful

Where to next………….. Pam Hook visiting in February and June Classroom visits continuing New Staff support / PLG Check out Moodle SOLO page Revisit the SOLO at StAC newsletters (on Moodle and your email) Reflect using the “SOLO journey” rubric and set a goal Try something different - How could you use SOLO to help students understand/enhance their learning? Union is strength – “SOLO is our language of learning”
