What is “Bauhaus?” The Bauhaus movement was formed in 1919 straight after the First World War and disbanded in 1933 by the Nazis. Their aims were to get rid of the class system and to create everyday objects for mass production for the whole population at affordable prices. The Bauhaus movement included artists, architects and craftsmen.

the Bauhaus is regarded as the most important art school of the 20th Century. Some of the most revolutionary, and now familiar, designs of the 20th century came out of the Bauhaus, including buildings constructed from steel and glass, and tubular steel furniture.

The Bauhaus Principle was: “ Form Follows Function” Take for example the teapot below, look at the shapes in the design. Sketch this teapot and try to work out the three main shapes used in their designs.

Identify which Objects were designed between 1919- 1933 and which objects are made today? Argos 1924 1930's style Le Corbusier reclining chair

Task: Now you have identified the three main shapes used in their designs Circle, rectangle and triangle Design three clocks using card and the three shapes. Also think about their art and the bright colours used. Make one of your designs free standing
