Objectives Discuss the definition, prevalence and etiology of orthodontic problems.

Objectives Discuss different procedures used to diagnose developmental problems

Objectives Identify the skeletal and dental components of developmental problems and malocclusions

Objectives of the Course Identify the severity of the malocclusion Complete an orthodontic diagnostic workup

Course Format Unit A – The Nature of Orthodontic Problems Malocclusion Definition Prevalence Etiology

Course Format Unit B – Methods for Diagnoses Diagnostic Procedures Dentofacial Proportions Principles of Cephalometric Analysis Space Analysis Systematic Description of the Malocclusion Assignment

Course Format Unit C – Diagnoses and Treatment Planning Orthodontic Workup Analyze the clinical information, casts and radiographs Develop a problem list Develop a preliminary treatment plan Case presentation Unit C evaluation is a case presentation Each small group subdivided in 4 groups will work together on a case All students have to participate in the presentation of the case assigned on the day scheduled in order to be graded

Small Group Seminars The learning process for Unit C will be supported by small group seminars where the information covered in the lectures will be discussed. Students will be evaluated on their participation in the seminar Each group will have 16-18 students Graduate Teaching Assistants will lead the discussions Attendance to small group sessions is mandatory

Small Groups The list of assignment of GTA for each small group will be available in BB prior to the sessions GTA’s will be available to answer questions not only in the small group seminars but you can also contact them via email. This information will be available on BB along with the GTA assignment list.

What you have to do… Complete assigned e-lessons and reading assignments Participate in small group seminars Complete the unit B assignments Complete unit C orthodontic case workup and present the case to the class Pass the exams

Grading and Evaluation Grade for units A and B exams make 40% of the course grade (20% each) Unit B assignments 15% Unit C - Case Presentation 20% Final exam 25%

attendance Attendance to all lectures is highly recommended. Attendance is mandatory for small group seminars and case presentation There is no grade for attendance
