Create A Scenario A step-by-step guide to building your own scenario activities within MindTap

STEP 1: Log in to your MindTap Course Through your Instructor SSO (www.cengage.com/login) or through your LMS MindTap link, enter your Mindtap course. If you do not have a course, create one.

Step 2: Click the + (plus sign) Once you have logged into your MindTap course, click the plus sign (+) at the top of the screen .

Step 3: Click Add Activity Once you have logged into your MindTap course, click ADD ACTIVITY from the choices.

Step 4: Click on Scenarios Scroll Down Choose SCENARIOS from the menu..

Step 5: Click CREATE Click the blue CREATE button . Click NEW from the drop down.

Step 6: Name Your Scenario Enter the title of the Scenario. Enter a brief description. Choose the age group (I normally just pick ‘School Age’). Choose 1 variable. Then click SAVE.

Step 7: Close the Screen On the next screen , click CLOSE.

Step 8: Search for the new Scenario After closing the screen, you will be returned to the ‘ADD Activity’ screen. Search for your new Scenario by title. Click on the title of your new Scenario (underlined).

Step 9: ADD DUE DATES, CLICK SAVE On the pop-up screen, you can add an AVAILABLE or DUE Date. Choose the Scenario location from the drop down. If you do not choose, it will put it at the bottom of the learning path in Mindtap. Click SAVE.

Step 10: EDIT Scenario Content The new scenario has been added to your MindTap Learning Path. From the MindTap Learning Path, click the TITLE of the Scenario to EDIT. *DO NOT USE THE Pencil Icon. .

Step 11: Add FOCUS Question Scroll down. Type in a brief description of the activity. Under FOCUS Assignment, enter what type of paper, project or activity the student should create. This is the MAIN ASSIGNMENT. Under Self-Evaluation, enter instructions on how the student should evaluate their ‘success’ with the Focus Activity.

Step 12: Rubrics and Grading Within the Scenario, you can change the points for the assignment by editing the RUBRIC. You will find the link to the RUBRIC within the SCENARIO, under the Title/Objective. Click ADD RUBRIC to get started.

Step 13: Create A Rubric Either Create Your Own Rubric or Copy and Existing Rubric and edit it. In this case, we’ll CREATE A NEW RUBRIC.

Step 14: Add Criteria/Points Title your Rubric at the top. Hover over titles or criteria to click the ‘Edit Button’. You can change the criteria or point values by clicking ‘EDIT’. To add MORE Criteria/MORE points, click ‘ADD CRITERION’ on the bottom left.

Step 14: Add Criteria/Points The more Criterion you add, the more points that are available for the assignment. You can also edit the points awarded. When you are done, click the yellow/gold ‘DONE’ button on the bottom right of the Rubric.

Step 16: Align Outcomes This step is OPTIONAL. If you wish to add educational standards or Bloom’s Taxonomy outcomes to this assignment, click ‘ALIGN OUTCOMES’ within the Scenario.

Step 17: Add Standards This step is OPTIONAL. Within the ALIGNED OUTCOMES, click on COMMUNITY OUTCOMES. It will take approximately 15 seconds to load. Click your on your chosen outcome. Click ALIGN OUTCOME (GOLD BUTTON). It will be added to the assignment.

EXAMPLE: ALIGN OUTCOMES See in this example, there is now a NAEYC Outcome aligned with this assignment.

Step 18: Scenario Files This is an OPTIONAL STEP. Click SCENARIO Files from within your Scenario. Add any examples or files you wish from your computer or other saved materials.

Last Step: Click SAVE At the bottom right of the SCENARIO, click SAVE. DONE!
