Overview What is a Vision? What makes up a Vision? Why is a Vision Important? Why you need a Vision. Why your Vision must be communicated.

A good vision is far reaching and challenging. What is a Vision? The act or power of anticipating that which will or may come to be The ability or an instance of great perception, esp of future developments An executives vision is the mental image of their command at some point in the future A good vision is far reaching and challenging. Climbing Mount Everest is challenging, but far from impossible.

What makes up a Vision? A vision is made up of goals. SMART Goals Goals are made up of objectives. Objectives are made up of tasks. SMART Goals Specific Measurable Aligned Realistic Time Constrained

Why is a Vision Important? Executives have the ability to establish a vision, or pick a destination for an organization. A supervisor does not. It is the defining factor when differentiating between strategic and operational leadership perspectives.

Why you need a Vision An executive leader without a vision is like a driver with no destination.

Why your Vision must be Communicated It lets your subordinates know why they are doing something. Can aid them in doing their task more effectively and/or efficiently. Increases morale through a sense of achievement. Provides an opportunity for subordinates to suggest better policies and procedures.
